Is it true I have to pay for House insurance one year in advance?

My realtor said I had to pay for house insurance one yr in advance, which on the closing day I did. But when I get my mortgage payment stub, on the Escrow account it says part of the payment will go to house insurance, why is that? Am i paying twice for it?

i had a question with home owners insurance, i hit my shed with my truck and it fell down, my shed is covered under my home owners insurance, would it be covered by my house insurance or will they go after my auto insurance which is liability only?

How can you buy home owner's insurance without a house?

We are trying to buy our first home, and now before we even know if we will get financed, they want us to BUY home owner's insurance? How? Why? Wouldn't that be done once we buy the house? Especially if it's escrowed in to our monthly payments?

I am just trying to sort out some house insurance as we think somone tried breaking in last night but luckily our dog scared them off. Anyways i dont have recipts for most of our things (Tv, computer, playstation etc) so if anyone did ever break in how could i proove we had these things, maybe photos? Thanks Kay
